Montague Projects

To know the spiders is a project by New York based designer Julian Montague. For this project Montague collected various spiders in a jar and studied their face under a microscope, a drawing is made into a template and the portrait is cut out of felt and attached to a piece of cloth, the cloth is made into a banner, hung and photographed in the spot where the spider was found. A collection of various photographs is compiled and made into an installation which was held at the Black & White Gallery, New York, 2008.

AOI Images 33

'Images' is the UK's leading illustration competition, annual, awards show, and touring exhibition by the Association of Illustrators aimed at showcasing the very best contemporary illustration published in the UK. We had the chance to visit Images 32 last year and it was amazing. Be sure to go see the next exhibition at Piece Hall, Halifax between 4 October 2009 - 7 November 2009

Anna Lincoln

LAST ORDERS presents a selection of screen prints inspired by Deptford’s historic pubs and deciphers the clues embedded in the buildings that reveal their fascinating history. In doing so the exhibition also draws our attention to the future of Deptford ‘s commercial landscape.

Progress / Bath School of Art & Design

Burn Everything

Liverpool based Burn Everything have some innovative and interesting design solutions. The project pictured above shows an interactive art installation called 'Conversation'. The exhibition was driven by public response.

Craig Fisher

Craig Fisher is currently exhibiting his work here at Plymouth College of Art and I've got to say its probably one of the best I have seen at the college for a while. Some really interesting and unique illustration style sculptural pieces and framed hand drawn images. The exhibition titled 'Foolish Act' is open until the 7th of March.

Could Be Me is an awesome online gallery,show off lots of different styles of work. Could Be Me is a project exploring possibility of one artist occupying another's space. It is a visual adventure and an interpretation of the same sentence by different artists worldwide .

THEMLOT

THEMLOT is a collective of artists hailing from Bristol to Birmingham. Gathered and put together by James Bourne.

I happened to stumble across a collection of black and white illustrations of theirs, exhibited on the wall of the new Urban Outfitters, Bristol. (Pictured above)

Poop in Soup

Starting on the 3rd of November is 'Poop in Soup', an exhibition in The Soup Gallery, 106 Kenwyn St, Truro, Cornwall, United Kingdom will be showing a collection of work from some of the South West's most up and coming illustrators. Exhibiting work are, Jack Teagle, Ben Aslett, Clare Owen, Holly Dodd, Ben Wright,Jess Douglas, Chloe Ehninger and Donya Todd. Its gonna be a regular feast for the eyes people so go have a look if you are in the area.

Its Nice That Exhibition

Wednesday sees the first of exhibits featuring the work posted on It’s Nice That one of my many daily reads and my main inspiration for J A D B. The exhibition will show 130 pieces of work in it’s original format. Artists include Anthony Burrill, Build, Scott Garrett, Tom Gauld, HelloVon, Mario Hugo, James Joyce, Kate Moross, Jason Munn, Damien Poulain, Rob Ryan, Alex Trochut, Dominic Wilcox, Wilfred Wood and many more. I am super excited about this as it is being held in Plymouth College of Arts the college I am currently attending.

The Best of British Contemporary Illustration 2008, Image 32 is the most prestigious and comprehensive illustration awards, annual and exhibition in the UK today. It includes artwork from the widespread ‘Raise Them On Robinsons’ campaign, delightfully illustrated by Adrian Johnson; a sharp witty comment on ‘Why Men Can’t Manage Women’ by Modern Toss; location sketches of a soldier’s work in Afghanistan by Matthew Cook; covers of the successful Northern Lights trilogy created by Dominic Harman; satire from Ian Pollock; Lara Harwood’s Notting Hill Carnival Poster and a Zombie Apocalypse by Rod Hunt. Desktopography

Desktopography is an exhibition based around the theme of nature. Designers from around the world have each created a selection of nature themed backgrounds for your computer. Its interesting to see how different designers tackle the brief and how the interpretation of the chosen subject is presented.

Sciencewerk

I discovered Sciencewerk through a friend of mine who made an illustration for the latest discussion/brief exhibition.

Sciencewerk: Clonewar is based on the premise that design and art creates value in any aspect of life as well as Science. It’s also a study of how contemporary digital artists / designers perceive the idea of science and how design may affect their perception.

The website is top notch and clever in its design and aesthetics. Be sure to check this one out.

Alec Strang

Alec Strang has some wicked but at the same time quite bizzare and dark illustrations. Im really into them! I have no idea where hes from or any of his background but i do know that he has just had an exhibition at the Concrete Hermit gallery in on Bethnal Green Road in London.

Thisissand.com

thisissand.com is a website for play. It changes the pixels on the screen into digital sand that can be used as building material for cosmic landscapes, Clemens-style sand paintings, mandalas and so on.
This is a joint project of the designers Johanna Lundberg and Jenna Sutela with the Flash programmer Timo Koro. We wanted to create a playground of colours and sound for people to play with us in our sandbox - within the computer screen.

Danniee had a really nice exhibition, with some beautiful illustrations, telling lovely storys, something about dannie's work reminds me of being a child in such a good way. Loves it!

Esme Johnson

We revisited the Foundation exhibition at Plymouth College of Art and Design today, and found some jems. Esme Johnson's abstract illustrations are really sweet.

David Shrigley

I am a great fan of David Shrigley's work, in particular his animation for Blur's "Good song", in which he collaborated with Shynola in 2004, I was lucky enough to see it in exhibition at the Sketch gallery, London. I was checking to see what he had been upto since then and the picture above, taken from his exhibition at the Stephen Friedman Gallery in London, made me chuckle.
