Apologies from The Get Up Kids

I've been a fan of The Get Up Kids since I was about 13 years old and have seen the word emo change from an "underground" scene of mainly skate punks and band kids into the blasphemous word it is today; with no thanks to the likes of "Fall out Boy" and "My Chemical Romance". Now who is to blame for this ugly change, could it be the MTV generation or the fact that anyone with garage band can make their voice and cheap guitar sound "half decent"?

Well apparently we have "The Get Up Kids" themselves to blame as highlighted in a July article on the Guardian website:

"Honestly, I don't often think about the state of emo," Suptic told Drowned in Sound. "We played the Bamboozle fests this year and we felt really out of place. I could name maybe three bands we played with. It was just a sea of neon shirts to us ... the punk scene we came out of and the punk scene now are completely different. It's like glam rock now. - If this is the world we helped create," guitarist James Suptic said, after looking into the crowd at a reunion gig, "then I apologise."

Frida Larios

I was looking through issue 66 of ISTD Typographic magazine and found this little Gem of a designer, Frida Larios is an associate lecturer at Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London and is Ideas Frescas Director. Have a look at the New Maya Hieroglyphs.

Mr Cartoon

Mr Cartoon is a well renowned tattoo artist from L.A. His Graffiti and off skin artwork is also very impressive. I found the image above on his website which also has a host of really nice photographs taken by Estevan Oriol who I featured a couple of days ago. If your into tattoos and dont know this guy, you should!

CBGB's

The question most often asked of me is, "What does CBGB stand for?"
I reply, "It stands for the kind of music I intended to have, but not the
kind that we became famous for: COUNTRY BLUEGRASS BLUES."
The next question is always, "but what does OMFUG stand for?" and I say
"That's more of what we do, It means OTHER MUSIC FOR UPLIFTING
GORMANDIZERS." And what is a gormandizer? It's a voracious eater of,

Thrasher

Being a skateboarder myself, and having done it for over 8 years I have quite a collection of skateboarding videos and magazines. Thrasher magazine has always been the core skate-mag and one of the first of its kind. Here are some images form the very first thrasher magazine, published January 1981.
